Family owned for 30 years

From its restaurant roots, starting with Ernst and Marianne Teske in 1980, Teske’s Germania has strived to be the best in authentic German dinning in the Bay Area. Bought by the Baumann family in 1990, they continued the culinary tradition. Soon after purchasing the restaurant, Hans Baumann sent his youngest son Scott to Germany—more specifically, the region of Baden Wurtemberg from which he hails, to do his chef apprenticeship. Hans wanted ensure his family’s style of German cooking would continue in Teske’s Germania. Also during that time, his eldest son Gregory, and his only daughter Cynthia, went to work on the monumental task of retrofitting, redecorating, and creating the stunning beer garden in the restuarant that is famous to this day.

After 15 years at the helm of Teske’s Germania Restaurant and Beer Garden, Mr. Baumann decided to turn the restaurant over to his three children. Now Gregory Baumann, Cynthia Baumann and Chef Scott Baumann, bring you the very best in old world German dining. They also bring forth some of their new innovative European culinary specials that keep them in the forefront of Downtown San Jose Dinning.

Beyond the authentic German cuisine, Teske’s Germaina is well-known for its Friday night Jazz in the amazing Bier Garten during the summer months. But Teske’s Germania is especialy well-known to the sounds of traditional German music once a month during the summer and most every weekend during the “Oktoberfest Season”—begining in September.
